About Material Measures

What this site is

A small set of concrete quantity calculators, built for people who need a defensible number before they phone a supplier or load a trolley. Everything runs in the page you are looking at: there is no account, no server-side processing of your measurements and nothing to install.

What it does

• Works out concrete volume for slabs, paths, footings, columns and post holes.
• Converts between millimetres, centimetres, metres, inches and feet.
• Shows every result in cubic metres, litres, cubic feet and cubic yards at once.
• Turns a volume into bag counts using the yield printed on your bag.
• Estimates cost from prices you enter yourself.
• Shows the formula and the working, so you can check the answer by hand.

What it deliberately does not do

• It does not tell you how thick a slab should be, how deep a post hole should go or what mix to use. Those depend on loads, soils, climate and local rules.
• It does not quote prices or exchange rates. Costs come only from your own figures.
• It does not guess bag yields. You enter what the manufacturer states.
• It does not detect your location or track you.

How it is built

All the maths lives in a handful of shared functions that convert to a single base unit first and only round when a number is displayed. Those functions are covered by automated tests against known values in both measurement systems. The reasoning behind every factor and rule is written out on the methodology page rather than left implicit.

Region settings

Choosing a region changes sensible defaults — measurement system, typical units and the currency symbol used to label your own prices — and nothing else. The arithmetic is identical everywhere. You can override any default, and a custom option exists for setups that do not match a preset.

Advertising and affiliate links

Neither is active. There are no advertising scripts, no analytics and no affiliate links on this site today. If that changes, the relevant policy pages will be updated to describe what is actually running before anything is switched on.

Corrections

If you find a result you believe is wrong, please say so — include the inputs, the units and what you expected. Reports that identify a specific miscalculation are the most useful feedback this project can receive. Reach us at the contact page.
